Own A Piece of Automotive History

Unlike natural gemstones, Fordite was created by decades of automotive craftsmanship. Before modern robotic painting, layers of enamel paint built up on factory equipment and were repeatedly baked to a glass-like hardness. Today, those colorful layers are carefully cut and polished into stunning cabochons, preserving a unique chapter of American industrial history.

Sadly, the techniques that produced this great rough years ago, are no longer in practice. Cars are now painted by way of an electrostatic process that essentially magnetizes the enamels to the car bodies. This leaves little, or no overspray. The old factory methods that created this incredible material are long gone.

The Fordite “mines” are dry, so get some while you still can!
